The 'X' and 'P' of the XP sign are not the letters X and P, nor Windows XP trademark. They are the Greek letters Chi (χ) and Rho (ρ). These two letters form the first part of the name of Christ in Greek 'Christos' (Χριστος) and so 'X' and 'P' signs are a shortened way of writing Christ's name. The 'Chi-Rho' sign as it is called is seen often in Churches or on books or anywhere where the maker or writer wishes to identify the object as Christian.For the same reason Christmas is sometimes shortened to Xmas. Again the 'X' is the letter 'Chi' and not 'X'and so Xmas should always be pronounced Christmas and never 'Ex-mass'.

I cannot even recall the language the prayer was written in..
