From what I read, the Colt diamondback is made of steel and should be able to take plus P ammo. To be on the safe side, check with a gun dealer.

The Model 1 uses standard .45 Colt (not .45 Auto- .45 ACP) and 2.5 inch .410 shotshells. However- this is a fairly small handgun- and the .45 Colt is not a small cartridge. You will likely find recoil very unplesant with standrd .45 Colt ammo. Several companies do load a reduced power "cowboy shooting" version of the .45 Colt, which would reduce some of the kick.
