Your engine is a twin cam.
the sensor is behind the timing belt cam gear.
The cam sensor is located on the left side of the engine (as your looking at it) on the valve cover. It is the only sensor that is located on that side on the upper part of the engine.

On a 1991 Mazda 323, the timing marks are located on the crankshaft pulley and the timing cover. You will find a notch or mark on the crankshaft pulley, which aligns with a corresponding mark on the timing cover for proper timing alignment. Additionally, reference marks may be present on the camshaft gear for setting the cam timing. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for precise details and specifications.
Apparently nobody knows. I've looked through all of Google for this answer, including in a Mazda forum, and nowhere can I find this. I'm about to buy a Haynes manual so I don't ever have to deal with this again. Also, I'll come back and answer you when I find out. Nick

If you open the hood and look directly at the engine, the sensor is on the top left of the cam cover. It's the small, black, plastic sensor held in by a single 10mm bolt.
