claw claw
Yes, cats do shed their claws. It is not something that you usually see about to happen, you just find a claw on the carpet somewhere. Though it is normal, when you find a claw, do have a close look just to make sure that it IS just a shed piece and not the whole claw. The shed claw is just a hollow shell.

As far as I know cats only really know how to claw, jump, and bite, in fighting.
Almost certainly, that was not the cat's claw, but simply a cast-off layer of her claw. Cats' claws grow in layers, and an entire layer is generally cast off at once, leaving something that looks like a claw but has flexible bottom edges. This is how cats sharpen their claws, actually; by pulling off the old, dulled layer to reveal the new, sharp layer underneath. If you want to confirm this to yourself, examine your cat's claws closely after you find one of these cast-off claws; you'll find she still has all five on each paw.
