The Pokémon Cottonee is a Grass/Fairy type. Before Gen. 6, it was a pure Grass type Pokémon.

You can catch a grass type Pokemon but catching mankey is the easiest because it appears a lot especially to the east of Pewter (where Brock is). Mankey has the advantage of being a fighting Pokemon which is super-effective against Brock's Pokemon.
Grass Pokemon
You get mankey in Pokemon yellow by going to the grass on the way to the Pokemon league. It is going to be from level 3 to 5.
You cant. But have a grass starter and verse the first kanto gym leader brock and use grass attacks to level up
Brock's Pokemon are mostly rock/ground types. This makes them very vulnerable to quite a water, grass, and fighting type attacks. If you chose Squirtle or Bulbasaur as your starter, make sure that they know a water or grass type move and just use that move to do a lot of damage to Brock's Pokemon. However, if you chose Charmander as your starter, you'll have a bit of a tougher fight on your hands. What you want to do is go back to Viridian City. After you get there, take the west (left) exit and search in the grass there. You're looking for a Mankey. Catch it and train it until it learns Karate Chop, then you should be able to sweep through Brock's Pokemon.
Yeah you do use either steel water or grass moves
Use the poke radar and grass will spark yellow but if a shiny it will be blue.
Brock is the easiest gym leader in kanto he has ground type Pokemon so you want to bring either water type Pokemon or grass type Pokemon ice type Pokemon also work. Teach them there type moves and use them to receive your boulderbadge.
saffrom city grass areas
Easy. Catch and train water/grass Pokemon, and if it's strong enough, you can use typhlosion. I know from experience. He's not THAT hard to beat, but to me, he was, since I used weaker Pokemon to train them. But, if you use water/grass Pokemon moves, it should work out for you.
sudowoodo, happiny, and croagank. I know by now, he should have at least 4 or 5.
