Basic information can be found in Windows. To find this information follow the guide lines below. If this information is insufficient, you will need to visit the manufacturers web site.

  1. Left-click the Start Menu button on the left side of your taskbar.
  2. Right-click My Computer.
  3. Left-click Manage. (This is the fourth option down.)
  4. The Computer Management dialogue window will open.
  5. Left-click Device Manager under System Tools in the console tree in the left pane.
  6. In a few seconds the action pane on the right will populate. (You may need to maximize the window.)
  7. Left-click the device class that applies to the hardware you need information about. If you do not know the device class, then you will need to open each class until you find your hardware.
  8. When you have found your hardware, double left-click the device.
  9. The Device Properties window will open to the General tab.
  10. Left-click the Driver tab to the right of the General tab.
  11. Most users will find all the information they need here. It would be wise to write down the following information. (Hardware make, series, and model. Driver provider, Driver date and Driver version number.)
  12. If you need a list of the device driver files installed you can left-click the Driver Details button.
  13. This will open the Driver File Details window. Here you should find a complete list of all files related to the driver. (Warning: Users should not attempt to open these files.)

Will 32-bit printer drivers work in a 64-bit installation of Windows?

No, 32-bit printer drivers will not work in a 64-bit installation of Windows. The operating system requires drivers that match its architecture; therefore, a 64-bit version of the printer driver must be installed for proper functionality. If only a 32-bit driver is available, users may need to find a 64-bit alternative or use a 32-bit version of Windows.

The only difference comes at when you are getting the drivers. While installing 32-bit drivers to a 64-bit computer, the installation might be successful. However, when installing 64-bit drivers to a 32-bit computer, the drivers will not install. But it is good to get drivers that match your computer bit system.

soon. Many people have 64 bit processors, but not all. Theres loads of software/hard drivers which is still 32 bit, and some people choose 32 bit even if they have a 64 bit processor because it might be an older PC. When enough people have good computers, 32 bit OS and programs/drivers will outdate and not exist at all.
