Yes In fact he did do some research for the movie he followed Hunter S. Thompson around for three or four months.
I found only the RB 3138 Shooter Aviator listed as Depp's eyewear in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. They come in almost 50 different colors which is why they may have looked pink. Those can be purchased at Edirect.co.uk, Unitedshades.com and Amazon.
johny depp!!
Johnny Depp has a greater range in his acting skills than Jack Black. On the other hand, Jack Black does some comedic roles that Johnny Depp could not pull off as well. It would depend on the movie.

Mr. Depp likes Hunter S. Thompson (Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas) and On The Road by Jack Kerourc.

Johnny Depp is many movies, such as: Edward Scissorhands, Nick of Time, Finding Neverland, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeny Todd, Willy Wonka (new version), Pirates of the Carribean 1-3, Public Enemies, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Chocolat.
The full title of the film is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It was produced in 1998 and starred Johnny Depp. This film was a box office failure. When it was released on DVD it became a cult film.

Depp has been in many films that cross the line into comedy or at least have a comedic undertone. He was a hoot as Don Juan DeMarco, Ed Wood, Icabod Crane, Duke Raul (Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas), and Cry Baby Walker. I suspect there is very little that Mr. Depp can't do.
He probably has many different sources of inspiration. I know he loved and respected the writer Hunter S. Thompson, who penned Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and The Rum Diaries, both Depp movies. He has mutual love and respect for his long-time friend Tim Burton, and I know his mother has always been supporting of all things Depp.
