It will vary depending on the make of your 30 round magazine. Rarely do I find a 30 round aftermarket magazine that works well for these rifles, and reloading with stripper clips is quite fast. If it were mine, I would not.
It's a magazine, not a clip. To install one, you have to field strip the rifle to the point where you remove the trigger assembly - once this is completed, you can remove any existing fixed magazine and replace it with another fixed magazine of your choosing. The M1 Garand shoots the 30 ot 6, so if you want stopping power its better. The SKS uses the 7.62x39, also has great stopping power, but the SKS is way cheaper. Personally i like the SKS better.
