The basic essentials of a story are plot and character. If you can obtain either of these then you can build-up a good story around them. Characters you can sample from real life, what you have to do is go to the places where the particular type of character you want to study reside and talk and/or interact with them.
There are only 36 different possible plots and they have all been fully exploited by the Greeks (and others) since ancient times. What you have to do is just pick one and add your character to it.

Anything that you have survived is a good survival story. If you want to write a general story about wilderness survival, anything you are willing to research enough to write will be a good story.
