When adjusting the rings, I caution you to always start with them set for heavy/ magnum loads and then go to light if failure to eject is experienced.

I always err on the side of caution. As Mr. Sharpe told me among the primary reasons the 900 stock cracks is because of high power loads with the brake/ friction rings set incorrectly.

The other reason (and primary cause of ejection problems, too) is because owners of the Type 1 guns do not make sure the magazine tube, both rings and the big spring are positively CLEAN of any oil or especially any grease. None.

That is for Type 'A' or '1' (under Serial # 100K)

Actually, glossing over these few pages is kind of frustrating as:

A) In the Parts List and blowup schematic:

1) The skinnier, silver ring (Part # 76) is referred to as the the Friction RING, and;

2) The fatter, brass collar (Part #77) is referred to as the Brake SHOE

but,

B) In the part of the front & back, one page "owner's pamphlet" that discusses "setting" the Brake RING and the Brake SHOE (according to what kind of ammo is being used), the diagram actually confirms the author referring to the skinnier, silver ring as the Brake SHOE !!!

C) In any event, and according to the diagram in the one page "owner's pamphlet" I have a photocopy of :

1) The RING (the skinnier, silver ring) is always up against the spring, i.e. IN BETWEEN the recoil spring and the fatter, brass SHOE.

2) When using "light" loads: the skinnier, silver ring's CONCAVE side is placed against the recoil spring, and;

3) When using heavy / magnum loads: the the skinnier, silver ring's FLAT side is placed against the recoil spring.
