How many volts does a 7.2 volt charger put out?

Without knowing the maximum output current it was designed to produce it isn't possible to say exactly how much voltage a charger produces. Also, was it intended to give a slow or a fast charge? In general all that can be said is that the output voltage of a battery charger must always be slightly higher than the nominal voltage of the battery it was designed to charge. This is for the simple reason that it won't be able to put any charge into the battery unless the charger's "on-load" voltage is higher than the battery's voltage. For the same reason, a charger which can deliver a high output current (amps) will need a higher "on-load" output voltage than a charger which can only deliver a low current. Also, when it is switched on but is not connected to a battery, the output voltage of any charger will always be higher than when it is doing its job of charging a battery. That voltage is called the "no-load" voltage. Assuming the battery being charged is a standard low-voltage type, of less than, say, 24 volts DC, it is quite safe, using a standard electrician's voltmeter, to measure the load and no-load voltages of the charger as described above.

Can you use a 3.5 amp charger to charge a 12 volt battery?

You can charge a 12 volt battery with a 6 AMP charger. The amount of amps put out by the charger is actually the rate which the power flows out from the charger, not the amount of volts it will charge. Volts and Amps are two different things. You can't charge up a 12 volt battery all the way, using a 6 volt charger. You can charge a 12 volt battery with a 12 volt charger rated at '6 amps'. It will charge the battery faster than a 2 amp charger will, but it will take longer than using a 12 amp charger. You probably don't want to use anything higher than a 12-16 amp charger for charging a 12 volt battery. Some chargers are equipped with a 60amp boost charge that is used for starting the vehicle, without having much of a charge in the battery. You DO NOT want to attempt charging a battery with it set to a 60amp boost charge. That is for starting vehicles only and could damage your battery. Keep in mind that the lower the amps are, that you use to charge the battery (1-2amps), will result in the charge lasting longer without recharging it, than if it was charged up at a higher setting (12-16amps).

Will Time Machine still backup if my MacBook is closed?

The original design for the MacBook family is to have the machine at least sleep when the lid is closed to preserve the battery. The part of the Mac OS called Time Machine is designed to backup software specified by the user of the machine when the machine is running. Sorry but.

How do you keep car battery charged while away?

Maintaining Battery ChargeIt is not uncommon for most batteries to "self-discharge" over time. There are a few ways to maintain the battery's charge:Start the vehicle about once every two weeks, and allow it to idle for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the alternator to charge the battery, and allow time for the engine and coolant to fully heat up to normal operating temperature, and to circulate lubricating oil throughout the engine which will help protect the engine's internal parts from corrosion. If you can't or don't want to start and run the engine, then you can buy a small, inexpensive charger designed just for keeping the battery charged. This type of charger is called a "Trickle Charger" and puts out just enough current [about one Ampere (Amp)] just to maintain an already fully chargedbattery. To power the Trickle Charger it plugs into an ordinary 110-120 Volt electrical receptacle. You could also use an ordinary battery charger IF it hasa trickle charge mode of operation. This charger also gets power from an ordinary household receptacle.Another option is to buy a Solar Trickle Charger [uses Photovoltaic cells]. With the solar trickle charger you just plug it into the cigarette lighter socket and then lay solar cell panel on top of the dashboard where it can get at least a few hours of sunlight daily.
