I did some testing on my z-2300.
For Audio Input:
pins 6 & 12 are L & R
pin 3 is ground
(optional) For bass control:
variable resistance between pins 1 & 11; variable between 6,000 to 14,000 ohms
(more resistance = less bass; less resistance = more bass)
(if you do not put the resistance between pins 1 & 11, you will get no bass. If you short pins 1 & 11, I highly suspect you'll fry {smoke} your sub)
Search the make and serial # on the web. Ther are tons of diagrams and schematics online.
A prototype does not have any necessary requirements, and is in fact not even a required in order to obtain a patent. However, if you are interested in including the prototype in the patent I would suggest creating a schematic or diagram of what your patent represents.

You might be able to get it for free from a really friendly dealership, but I doubt it. You'll probably have to buy the Haynes manual. They're only a couple bucks, and have a ton of usefull info in them. I highly recommend them. You can get them at autozone.
You can obtain a transmission diagram, for your 1989 Ford automobile at most auto-parts stores. You can also obtain the transmission diagram from most Ford dealerships.
