Einstein attended the progressive Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich, Germany, which was later renamed the Albert Einstein Gymnasium. He withdrew at the age of 16 and never finished high school. He would later express that his reason for leaving was the limitations of creative thought placed on him through the school's strict rote learning.
One school he attended was the "Kantonsschule" in Aarau, Switzerland. Today, this is the old Kantonsschule in Aarau. The Kantonsschule is also called a "Gymnasium" in German. It's for ages 16-19. In another Kantonsschule in Baden, Switzerland, there's a huge painting on a lobby wall of one of Einstein's report cards. Here one sees that he got straight A's in the sciences, B's in humanity-type subjects and a D in French. Not sure anymore but believe he got a C in sports. Afterward he attended the ETH in Zurich (Swiss Institute of Technology).
Albert Einstein started attending Zürich Polytechnic in 1896. He also received his PhD from the University of Zurich in 1905.
Albert attended a Catholic elementary school from the age of five for three years. The elementary school was called the Petersschule.
