When the king of England wanted a divorce and the Catholic church wouldn't let him.

More SpecificallyHenry VIII was married to Catherine of Aragon, but he wanted to marry Anne Boleyn. In 1534, when the Pope refused to grant permission for a divorce, Henry decided that he would start a new church, with himself as head and asked himself "can I have a divorce please?" And he answered himself "Yes, of course". Since then, every monarch has been styled 'Supreme Head of the Church of England' Answer

It started when King Henry VIII of England wanted to divorce his wife and remarry.

The Roman Catholic Church (which had previously been the mainstay of previous British Royalty) strictly forbade divorce.

So King Henry decided he should start his own church and call it the Church of England.

Of course, in the end, he married 8 wives and had them be-headed when he wanted to remarry each time!

Answer

King Henry VIII wanted a divorce, and the Pope would not grant him one, having already granted him an annulment from his previous wife. The bishops in England had been wanting reforms for some time, which they had not been able to persuade either the Pope or the king to pass; Henry VIII had in fact been granted the title Defender of the Faith, for supporting the Catholic Church against Protestant reformers. When circumstances changed, the king got the divorce he wanted, and the bishops the reforms they wanted, in establishing the Church of England.

Answer

King Henry the VIII wanted to divorce his lawful wife and marry another woman, but the Catholic Church said it was wrong to divorce a wife.

He wanted to be considered 'holy' and be married in a church, so he started his own church.

King Henry also sought the approval of his friend Saint Thomas Moore, whom he knew was a good man and held honour and respect in England. When St. Thomas Moore refused to attend the wedding because it was not blessed by the Catholic Church, King Henry VIII had him beheaded.

One can blame King Henry the eight for this. England at the time was catholic, but when the pope refused to let Henry divorce(which he seem to do a lot) and remarry, the king broke alligence with the Roman Church which resulted in the church of England.

King Henry the VIII of England created the Church of England in the 1500s because the Catholic Pope would not agree to his marriage annulment with Catherine of Aragon, enabling the King's marriage to Anne Boleyn.

King Henry created the Church of England, with himself as head of the church, so that he could annul the marriage with Catherine and begin the marriage with Anne.

Other reasons relating to the creation of the Church of England include the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church during these times, as well as it's extreme wealth especially when compared with Henry's coffers at the time.

The Church in britain was thought to have arrived from Palestine within a short time of the Crucifixion, brought here by several apostolical figures including S. Simon, brother Of Christ! The Roman Councils of the middle ages say it was brought here by S.Joseph of Arimathea. One Celtic Historian puts the date at about 37AD.
