To the south of Egypt, the Ancient Egyptians traded with Nubia through scattered desert oasis'. They could not of used the Nile river for transportation because once you start going down towards Upper Egypt, cataracts (or waterfalls) prevent you from doing so. To the North, they most likely used the surroundings of the Meditrranean Sea. For transportation, they used wheeled barrels.
