Garrett A Morgan patented his "Three-way Traffic Signal" in 1923.
He lived from 1877 to 1963, so he was 46 when he invented the Traffic Light.
He sold his invention to General Electric for $40,000.
Garrett Morgan did not invent the seat belt. The modern 3-point seat belt was invented by Nils Bohlin, which was introduced in 1959. Garrett Morgan did, however, did invent a version of the traffic light (though he was not the first)
He created the very first gas mask. He invented a manually activated traffic signal. And he successfully patented both inventions, although there is no evidence his signal device was ever put into operation.
he invented the automatic traffic signal and the gas mask and was supposedly the first person in Cleveland to own a car
Garrett Morgan (U.S.A.) was an inventor and businessman from Cleveland who is best known for inventing a device called the Morgan Safety Hood and the gas mask in 1914. In 1923 he patented a traffic signal. I believe he also had a patent on a kind of sewing machine.Despite what some people may try to tell you, he did not "invent the traffic signal" ... he patented one kind of traffic signal; it wasn't the first, nor was it remarkably better than the many others that were being developed by many other people around the same time, and to the best of my knowledge no city ever actually used it.It's common for the traffic light myth to be trotted out during Black History Month, and it's unfortunate, because he really does deserve wider recognition for the safety hood that he not only developed but personally used in a heroic rescue of workers digging a water intake tunnel after a gas explosion and fire trapped them in there and killed the first people who tried to rescue them.
Mary A. Morgan. He only had one wife.
In early 1922, inventor Garrett Augustus Morgan designed a cross shaped traffic signal, for which he submitted a patent application on February 27 of that year. The patent was granted on November 20, 1923.

A police office named William Potts of Detroit Michigan in 1920 invented the traffic signal. His race is not mentioned.
In 1923, Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr., an African American inventor, patented his own version of the traffic signal. The Morgan traffic signal was a non-electric, T-shaped pole unit that featured three hand-cranked positions: Stop, in all -directional stop position. This third position halted traffic in all directions to allow pedestrians to cross streets more safely. It was never practical enough to put into production. The story nevertheless has been widely and erroneously circulated that Morgan was the "inventor" of the traffic signal.
The traffic light as we know it today was invented by Garrett Augustus Morgan, the son of former slaves. Before that there was a gas lantern signal light in England, but that was before automobiles. There was a railroad light version later, but it wasn't like our modern version. If you didn't mean "traffic light" then i don't know.
Granville T. Woods did not directly help Garrett Morgan with the invention of the traffic light. While both inventors made significant contributions to technology in the early 20th century, Morgan is credited with patenting the first three-position traffic signal in 1923. Woods, known for his work on electrical and mechanical devices, focused on innovations in railway and telecommunication technologies. Their paths did not directly intersect in the development of the traffic light.

The first inventor was Garret A. Morgan at around 1923.
JP Knight invented the traffic light in 1868
Garrett Morgan is often credited with creating the first three-position traffic signal in 1923, which ultimately evolved into the modern stop light we use today. Morgan invented this device to improve traffic safety and regulate the flow of vehicles on the road.
He created the very first gas mask. He invented a manually activated traffic signal. And he successfully patented both inventions, although there is no evidence his signal device was ever put into operation.
Garrett Morgan invented the first electric stop light around 1926
