Yes, and the covenant is in his blood, as the Scripture says in Hebrews 12 -".22 But ye are come -------- 24. to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than [that of] Abel.
By making an everlasting covenant with them through the blood of Jesus Christ
In Genesis 15:9, 10, God made a covenant - a blood covenant - with Abram, affirming His relationship with him (the Abrahamic covenant). In Exodus 24:3-8 God again made a blood covenant - with the children of Israel, affirming His relationship with them (the Sinai or Mosaic covenant). In Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22, and Luke 22:19, Jesus, God's Son, made a blood covenant - with His disciples, affirming His relationship with them. At that time, a new dispensation was brought in. An historical page was turned. A point of remembrance (an altar) was erected. Without Jesus' body and blood, there is no alternative but to be under the old Mosaic covenant, and thus, under the law. But Jesus fulfilled the law and paid the price for sin with His own body and blood... and that's what He wants us to remember as often as we eat the bread and drink the cup.
What was the original blood covenant?
A covenant is also called a testament. The covenant that God made with Abraham in Genesis is now considered the old covenant and it was put into force with blood.Among the Old Testament sacrifices were animal sacrifices in which an animal was slain (blood Sacrifice). When God made the covenant with Abraham, God had Abraham gather up a heifer, a goat, a ram, a turtledove, a pigeon. The animals were then all cut in two and that night a deep sleep fell upon Abraham and the presence of God walked between the pieces. A blood covenant had occurred. In the New Testament Jesus Christ came to save sinners and to usher in the New Covenant. Jesus was the Testator of the New Covenant. We are told that as long as the testator is still alive the covenant (testament) is not in affect. Animal sacrifices could never take away the sin of the world, only the blood of Jesus could do that. When Jesus died on the cross (Shed his Blood) the new covenant (Testament) became active. The death of Jesus the Christ was a blood Covenant. Praise God that on the third day Jesus resurrected from the dead and is now in heaven making intercession for those who love Him. Soon he will return to take His own to heaven.Additional Comment:Hebrews 9:18-23New King James Version (NKJV) 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you."[a]21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.Greatness of Christ's Sacrifice23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. Because he knew it was his last day on earth in his body with his disciples, and he gave it, his body and blood, for the disciples to remember him, and as a sign of the New Covenant in his blood and not the blood of a lamb, which is Passover.
The New Covenant took effect the same minute that Jesus Christ died. The New Covenant erased the Death Penalty either by stoning or any other method invented by man. The New Covenant is based on Mercy and Forgiveness and 2nd Chances. Unfortunately 95% of the Jews rejected Jesus as the Messiah and son of God by asking the Roman Empire to kill Jesus. The Jews have until this day of the 21st Century innocent blood in their hands for asking the Romans to kill Jesus so the Jews are not God's people at all.
Pentecostal doctrine states the Jesus ChristÕs blood washes away all sin when one is baptized. From this point on, the personÕs life should be holy and shun away worldliness.
Jesus is the head of the Catholic church. As the head he is our leader.
Wine (Jesus' Blood)It's disputed. Catholics and most orthodox churches believe that it was wine transformed into blood, whereas other Christians insist it is only symbolic of Jesus' blood.
The word covenant appears in Matthew here:Mat 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.A covenant is an agreement/a promise/an undertaking. In the Old Testament times God made a covenant with the nation of Israel. He would be their God and they would be His people. But Israel failed to keep their part of the covenant, they were supposed to be a light to all the other nations to show God's ways.So God has made a new covenant, it is sealed with the blood of Jesus, it is to all who believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died as a sacrifice for sin.Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.Joh 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. If you believe this then you will be saved from the judgment that all people will face - that is God's promise.
God made a covenant with the Israelites symbolizing if they kept his commandments and obeyed him then he would give them the land that he promised Abraham or the land of Canaan and that he would also let them prosper and destroy their enemies. The blood of the sacrifices was the symbol of this covenant. This covenant lasted until he gave his only son, Jesus. Then he made a new covenant saying that if you believe him you will have eternal life.
