He found out what school Justin went to and called them to see if they could get him in touch with Justin's mother Pattie Malette. He finally got in touch with her and they talked things over. Scooter brought Justin to tons of people and nobody would sign him because he didn't have a background of stardom or anything. Once he sang for Usher, he signed him a very good deal.

So Justin's mom decided to they would fly to Atlanta. So they went to Atlanta and Usher became his mentor.
