In 1851, the original holding of Studley Park was further subdivided and sold off. One of the major purchasers, Nicholas Fenwick, further subdivided his 495 hectare block and named it Kew. He had named many of the streets after English Statesmen and it is thought that he named Kew for its counterpart in London due to its proximity to Richmond.
