He patented a model boat which was operated by remote control. But he didn't actually invent it. Radio remote control was going on in India in 1894 by Bose who would use radio waves to ring bells remotely. He'd also detonate explosives that way too. This is a good decade before Tesla's patent after showing off his boat at Madison Square Garden to the press.
He got the credit - but he wasn't the first - or even close to being the first.
He did invent the first remote control but it was for a motor boat (1899). At the time of his death, tv remotes were far away from the picture.
1899
In 1898 he showed his remote control bote which he did so in the US.
Nikola Tesla is the father of Robotics. Tesla discovered remote control and patented a radio controlled robot-boat in November 8, 1898 (Patent #: 613.809) in 1898.
Nicola Tesla
At the Electrical Exhibition of 1898, Tesla demostrated something beyond the limits of technology. His remote control, patent No. 613,809 (1898) was shown there. This inventions was made in the US. Tesla was living in New York.
what year was the remote control invented?
a remote control
Nikola Tesla invented things like electrical generators, FM radio, remote control, robots, spark plugs, fluorescent lights, and giant machines that shoot enormous, brain-frying lightning bolts. He
He created the remote control to improve humanity

The whole world uses his ac electrical system. The radio was an Tesla invention and also the remote control was invented by him.
His genius mind came to the conclusion that sound and energy were transmitted by waves in the environment. With that in mind he invented the Coil. He put it to use by inventing the radio and the remote control making the Tesla Coil the basis in anything wireless. Now, he invented it to guide explosive boats as weapons against the enemy. The Navy didn't think so and Tesla was not a good at selling. The fact that it could become the most sold out toy didn't occur to him. He got that patent since 1986 and he was playing with it.
