No. WKRP was a fictional radio station when the series was created. There was no WKRP radio anywhere int he US until 1989, and it was in Dallas. There is currently no WKRP radio. Local Cincinnati Low Power Digital TV channel WBQC 25 has a sub-channel labeled WKRP. When the series producers came up with the call letters they used KRP as a joke to mean "crap". There is a WKRC - AM 550 in Cincinnati which at the time the original series aired was known for its antics and crazy promotions. FM sister station WKRQ-FM 101.9 (Q-102 - Top 40 Rock-pop station) also claimed some input to the TV series. But neither station actually had any direct input to the TV show. It all came out of the heads of the writers. The series was also NOT filmed in Cincinnati. Only the opening and closing sequences were filmed in the city. The series had serious problems with local geography and sometimes even place-name pronunciations.

yes it used to be an am station until 2003 It is now a tv station broadcasting independent programming
It is a fictional radio station in Cincinnati. The TV show, WKRP, aired in the 1980's and is still shown on WGN. I think the show is still funny years later--particularly the Thanksgiving show where they do a publicity flyover with turkeys. "I thought turkeys could fly!" (no actual turkeys are used)
