The verses of Isaiah mentioned in Luke,
Luk 4:18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;
Luk 4:19 TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."
are from Isa 62:1 and 2.
We don't know if this is the complete portion Jesus read.
He started in Isaiah 61:1 and ended in verse 2 "acceptable year of the Lord."
The prophet Isaiah is popular as he has prophesied both the birth of Christ and the death of Christ.
The prophet Isaiah, was to prophecy, the birth of christ 700 years before the birth of Christ. He also in chapter 53 clearly tells of Christs trial and punishment for us.
Some scholars say that the Book of Isaiah was written by two authors, now known as First Isaiah and Second Isaiah. Others, possibly a minority, say that there were three authors, and add Third Isaiah as well. First Isaiah, whom we know as the Isaiah who signed his work in verse 1:1, wrote during the reigns of Kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah of Judah. This places First Isaiah around 700 years before the time of Christ. There was then a break of over a hundred years before an anonymous author, now known as Second Isaiah decided to add new material to the by-then ancient book, during the Babylonian Exile. Whether he is the same author who continued to write during the early years after the Return from Exile is uncertain. Overall, Second Isaiah (and Third Isaiah) wrote for some decades, but the total is open to debate. They lived around 500 years before Christ. Thus, the Book of Isaiah was begun around 700 years before Christ and completed about 500 years before Christ.
the messiah, Jesus Christ
There are different readings for the different Mass times for Christmas. The First Reading for Christmas Midnight Mass is Isaiah 9:1-6, for the Mass at Dawn it is Isaiah 62:11-12, for the Mass of Christmas Day it is Isaiah 52:7-10.
In Isaiah he is called 'Emmanuel' meaning 'God with us'.
Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6, 7)
Isaiah is an Old Testament prophet and not accorded the title of saint. That title is usually reserved for those who were followers of Jesus Christ in the New Testament or to the angels.
Isaiah 53 portrays the suffering and death of Christ, often referred to as the "Suffering Servant" passage. It describes the sacrificial nature of Jesus' death and how he would bear the sins of many. This chapter is significant in highlighting the atoning work of Christ on the cross.
I would say it is the Book of Isaiah. It has many topics and verses about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel.
