Why did ponyboy's life seem so different after the hearing?
Ponyboy's life was so different because his best friend, Johnny, and his second best friend, Dally, were both dead. And, because, Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy realized how important family really was and decided not to fight anymore. The Socs started staying on the North Side of town after the rumble, so they ALMOST completely stopped bothering what Greasers were left.

im 99.9 percent sure ponyboy collapse's because he got kicked in the head by a soc in the rumble. Well if you're talking about right after Dally died, it was because of a minor concussion he got from being kicked in the head from the Soc in the rumble, shock because he had seen one friend die just a few hours ago (Johnny) and another friend who he had just seen being shot down and killed by the police (Dally), and plus he was also running a fever all day too so I'm sure that didn't help matters. But if you're talking about when he and Johnny were saving those kids from the fire it was because his back was on fire and when Dally hit him to put it out he accidentally hit Ponyboy too hard.
Why does ponyboy get sick at the fifth day at the church in the outsiders?
I am guessing this is after he came home. He was still not fully recovered from the smoke inhalation he got from saving those kids from the burning church. The other case is that he was suffering from not only the smoke inhalation but along with a concussion he got from the rumble, and adding to the fact he watched both Johnny and Dally die right before his eyes.
