Credit for ballooning goes to the Montgolfier brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier. They had noticed how light fabric rises when the air underneath them becomes heated and constructed several succesful balloons from their observations. They were from a small village in France called Annonay. Joseph-Michel lived from August 26, 1740 until June 26, 1910. Jacques-Étienne lived from Jan. 6, 1745 until Aug. 2, 1799.
