Hernando wanted to explore the Strait of Anian, because he can go to Asia to trade for spices and silk. But in 1535, he reached what he thought was an island and claimed it for Spain. As a result, Cortes never found the Strait of Anian. In June 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo set out to look for it.

I'm afraid that not much is known about Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's early years, and historians are divided over his actual country of birth, let alone his date of birth. So all I can tell you is that he was either Portuguese or Spanish, and that he was thought to have been born around 1499. Not much to go on, but who knows, maybe one day someone will unearth a document that will tell us all about his date and place of birth.
Juan Cabrillo was an only child, so he did not have any siblings. He was born in 1499 in Palma del Río, Spain, and went on to become a renowned Spanish explorer and navigator. Cabrillo is best known for his exploration of the west coast of North America, particularly California, in the 16th century.
