The few who weren't summarily killed, and managed to escape the Nazis, and weren't handed over to the Nazis by the local populace, hid wherever they could. Some went into the forests and joined the partisans (and even there, they faced antisemitism).

The reason that some Jewish people went into hiding was to stay away from being sent to an unfair death in a concentration camp, also they went into hiding for their children, some Jewish families were not able to hide everyone so they hid their children.
