The Christmas Star, or "Star of Bethlehem", reportedly acted as a beacon for the Three Persian Magi to follow from Persia to Jerusalem (then told to go to Bethlehem for Jesus' birth). Mistranlations regarding the "rising" star at the time of the solstice (Stand Still). The star directing them to Jerusalem does not mean all other stars sit still in the sky and this one moved. Nor does it say the star led them to Bethleham, the readers of the Bible to Herod directed them to Bethlehem. And it says the star that had gone ahead of them merely means the one that travels west as all stars do was then overhead when they chose to enter the house. WAY WAY too much extra interpretations are added by people who all think they understand this.
However, click on the related links section below (Christmas Star), for a really interesting story on how one individual traced this happening back to 2 BC.
