When the Palace of Westminster was to be rebuilt after it was destroyed in 1834 a committee was set up with a competition to find a suitable design. Charles Barry won with his design but he was later asked to add a clock tower to it so it was revised. With the help of Augustus Pugin the tower we still see today was designed and later built.
