Kodak is the brand name for a camera. The word was arbitrarily coined by it's inventor, American George Eastman (1854 - 1932), for the purpose of obtaining the US TradeMark (registered September 4th, 1888). Before the century could turn, the name was synonymous with the word camera.

1908 brought the first usage of the term Kodak freak, meaning camera buff.

1915 saw the name Kodachrome as a registered TradeMark for Mr. Eastman's method of color Photography.

1922 brought about the coining of the word Muzak, a blending of music and Kodak by General George Squier, who developed a system for background music to be played in workplaces.
