The original inhabitants of Southern Scotland were from the Scotti tribe who came from Ireland and Scotland is named after them. The original inhabitants of Northern Scotland were the Picts but no one is absolutely sure where they came from.

The 'Scotti' tribe were from what is now Northern Ireland. They sailed to and settled in what is now Scotland and mixed with the local tribes which were the Picts.
