I found this one pretty interesting. 'Bio' comes from Greek for life, but is a prefix for a whole bunch of sciences, including "bionics", another word for electronics. We long ago (way back in the 1970's) were referring to the silicon wafers being tested as "chips". Smash the two together and you get a biochip.
