The emperor penguin's nesting grounds are in Antarctica. The female emperor lays her egg on her feet. The egg is passed to the male when the female returns to the ocean. The male keeps the egg on his feet for 9 weeks, till it hatches. Then the mother returns and carries the chick around on her feet till it is ready to be on its own.

The females go to the ocean, once a year, to get food for their young. The males stay in one place, so that the females can find them. And when both genders are together, they don't really move around much.

Another Answer

Emperor penguins do not migrate; they disappear. They come to Antarctica to breed, described above, and when breeding season is over, no one knows where they go for the remaining seven months of the year.

It's possible that they spend most of that time at sea, again, scientists don't know where.

Emperor penguins breed in Antarctica. After the eggs are laid, the males collect in massive groups and incubate the eggs during the winter, while the females leave for the winter to fish. When spring arrives, the females return and the penguin chicks hatch. Both parents work together to take care of the chick.
