I believe that a true believer in Buddhism the teaching of the buddha lies not in the place one would attend, but in a state of mind one would posses. And by this what might appear to be a Buddhist practicing Buddhism could very well just be an illusion, created by your desires. In today's moden time the teaching of the buddha is spreading into the west where the way of living is different.
they practice it in the confins of a temple
They don't worship, they contemplate and meditate, anywhere.

in monasteries :D
Christian monasteries will always have, at very least, a chapel. Some have full-fledged churches, and some are attached to abbeys or even cathedrals. So communal worship in a monastery is not that different from communal worship in the outside world. The big difference is that a central part of being a monk is to convert every action into an act of prayer. Meals are prayerful, hoeing the monastery garden is prayer, everything is done, whenever possible, in a prayerful way. This means that even when a monk is outside the walls walking to the supermarket, the ideal is that the monk does so as an act of worship.

Monks typically pray to their chosen deity or deities depending on their religious tradition. This could include praying to a specific god or goddess, an enlightened being, or to a higher power that is significant within their faith.

If you consider prayer to be an homage to a deiry or a request or assistance from this same deity, then Buddhist monks don't pray at all as Buddhism has no deity, The monk's chanting helps them meditate and fix their minds on the aspects of Buddhist thinking that lead to enlightenment.
