the biggest part of the population is concentrated on the cost, specialy by the southeast region, where there are 4 states (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo). The metropolitan areas are historicaly (and still) more profitable, specialy Sao Paulo and Rio, so people come all over the country to try to make their lives here. The south is richer than the north in Brazil.
Well, about the capital.. it used to be Rio de Janeiro many many years ago, so by the 60`s the world-wide famous Oscar Niemeyer made a project to construct a new city, as a request of the president Kubischek. So Brazilia, which is located on the center of the country became the capital. Nowadays there are lots of people living there also, but Rio and Sao Paolo are still the places with the biggest concentration of inhabitants. Hope to have helped.
