The distribution of palm trees is pretty much cosmopolitan; that is to say palm trees can be found growing in most areas of the world with the exception of the Arctic regions.

Most palms are adapted to a particular environment, so you may find the Date Palm (for example) growing in extremely arid regions (high temperature, low rainfall, low humidity, blowing sand) to palms that are at home in tropical jungles with high rainfall, high humidity and protection from the wind (such as Raphis). Then there are a host of palms that fall in between (the two extremes).
