Nitrogen, Sulphur and Carbon all react with the water in the air to become slightly acidic, making acid rain.

The gases are mostly emitted from our factories and power stations, however natural events such as lightning strikes (Nitrogen) and volcanic eruptions (Sulpher Dioxide) can cause these gases to be released.
