What happens in large intestine?

The large intestine is attached to the posterior to the small intestine and as you maybe already know the small intestine is where food wastes go and bile is secreted into. The large intestine reabsorbs water from the ingested food particles before they enter the rectum and colon for excretion.

Most of the nutrients from food are absorbed through the small intestines?

No it is absorbed in the large intestine through what is called Villi and then enters the circulatory system.--The small intestine doesn't absorb nutrients from blood. Rather, it's blood that obtains nutrients from the small intestine. And yes, absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine, whereas the large intestine functions for resorption of salts and water and removal of wastes.

The sphincter between the small and large intestine is the?

Between the stomach-small intestine is the Pyloric. Between the small intestine and large intestine is the ileo-caecal. Then 2 sphincters at the end of the "process:" one to send messages to your brain to tell you to go to the bathroom and one to "control" yourself.

Where in the digestive system is water absorbed into the bloodstream?

The small intestine must absorb massive quantities of water. A normal person or animal of similar size takes in roughly 1 to 2 liters of dietary fluid every day. On top of that, another 6 to 7 liters of fluid is received by the small intestine daily as secretions from salivary glands, stomach, pancreas, liver and the small intestine itself. By the time the ingesta enters the large intestine, approximately 80% of this fluid has been absorbed.

When nutrients leave the stomach in what order do they move through the small intestine?

When food leaves the stomach it first goes through the small intestine. It goes in the same order as it leaves the stomach. The first part of the small intestine is called the duodenum. It changes the digestive fluid from the acidic fluid of the stomach to alkaline. After that it goes through the rest of the small intestine. Nutrients that have become small enough are absorbed by the small intestine through small projections or villi. Food that leaves the small intestine goes into the large intestine. There bacteria digests part of it and makes part of it available for the human. The food part then passes through the very thin large intestine wall. The food digested in the small and large intestines go from there to the liver.

What is the role of the small intestine in the digestive system of proteins and fats?

In the small intestine, the food you eat continues being digested, and then the nutrients and proteins your body needs make their way out of the small intestine and into the rest of your body. Then the matter that is left over passes through the small intestine into the large intestine...causing you to go to the restroom.

How are the relative lengths of the frogs small intestine and large intestine related to their function?

Since the small intestine helps absorb nutrients and calories from digested food, the small intestine needs to be long enough so it can go through full digestion.Because Sarah H. told me the large intestine is better

Nutrients are absorbed from the small intestine the blood (red) vessel travel through.

Why does the small intestine have a large internal surface area and what contributes?

the small intestine has a large surface area because it allows nutrients to be absorbed into the body more quickly and easily. If there was a small surface area may-be most of our nutrients would end uo in the large intestine and out when we go to the toilet. To answer the final part of the question. What contributes? the length and elasticity of the small intestine contributes to it having a large surface area.

Where are digested foods absorbed?

The digestion first starts in the mouth and the food is absorbed in the small intestine, and the water and minerals go to your large intestine:)learned this in biology, last week =)
