There is an open pit mine near the Globe/Miami area in Arizona. There is also an Apache tears mine there. I've been to both. I don't know if they still do it, but at the Apache tears mine, many years ago, you paid a dollar and they gave you a bucket. You had to mine the rocks yourself. There are other copper mines in AZ.

The Lost Dutchman's mine remains lost in Arizona's Superstition Mountains. It is now a Wilderness Area where mining is restricted. There have been many hoax maps of how to find it, but so far it remains untouched. Some contend that it is only a local legend.
