It's toward the end of the game on the level called 'Full Moon'. You will also need the Cardinal as your pet animal. It's about halfway through the level. -- You have to enter the first shanty shack you encounter on the right hand side, just before you climb your first ladder. The Cardinal will do the rest.

In the Industrial Castle level after Pipistrello's Cave, there's a large enemy with the Cardinal Animal Orb. The Cardinal finds secret hidden items. With the Cardinal go to the Full Moon level after Medusa's Lair. The Cardinal will find and give you the key in the second hut just before you go to the Snow World Level. The Key Sword opens the last door in the Animal Ark and unlocks the Berserker animal (he gives you a magic boost).

Another animal called Berseker, he isn't really the best though. He gives you increased magic. To unlock it, pick up the cardinal from the Industrial Castle level and go to the Full Moon level to get the hidden Key Sword. Use the sword on the door to unlock it.
