Dwarf hunters start out in Dun Morogh with a pet, but cannot learn to control it or tame a new pet until level 10. There are plenty of animals in Dun Morogh to tame as a new pet, such as Wolves and Bears.
To tame a pet, you need to not be controlling a pet at the time, target the creature you want to tame (if it is tameable) and then press "Tame Pet". You will have to channel the spell for the full duration, after which you will have tamed a new pet.
You can buy dwarf hamsters at Pet Smart.

You simply re-summon it. If you are talking about a hunter pet that dies in battle, then you have to use the hunter spell "Revivie Pet".
I have a dwarf lionhead its a mix of dwarf and lionhead like... My rabbits parents her mom is a dwarf and her dad is a lionhead they make the best pet though they are small and fluffy and so cute!
Hunters can not use shields. The best offense is to use the pet as a diversion, then attack. The pet holds the agro while the hunter kills.
The Hunter pet becomes available from level 10 on, so at any level at or after 12 you can do the quests and get hunter pet skills. If you mean that your pet is still level 10 and you'd like a higher level pet, simply take it with you, it will level soon enough. You can also abandon it and tame a new (level 12) pet.
dwarf hamsters need the same bedding as normal hamsters which is straw or shavings which you can get in a pet shop.
