The issue of classic game play doesn't refer to any particular version of the game but rather how the in-game playbooks were presented before the transition to the next generation systems, e.i. Xbox360 and PS3. The transition of the game to the next generation systems has brought with it a new 'arcade' like method of selecting plays, thus leaving the classic method all but obsolete. However, the classic method has lived on through the continued release of the game on the aging original Xbox system. With recent news that classic method is being brought back as an optional alternative on the 20th Anniversary Special Edition of the famed franchise, many in the Madden community whom have been critical of the 'arcade' method should rejoice. I'm one of them.
