There is no single answer to that question. Any cell can be the active cell. It is the cell that is selected and active. You can select any cell and make it the active cell.

The Formula Bar shows those things. Included in it is what is specifically known as the Name Box, which is where the address is shown. The Insert Function button is beside that and then the Formula Box part, when you can see the contents of the cell.

As you type, Excel displays the entry in the FORMULA BAR, and also displays the active cell reference int he Name box on the left.
The Name Box will show the address of the current cell that is active.
The TODAY() function displays the current date. If you want to put the current date into a cell, press the Ctrl and the semi-colon key.

I am not aware of a name menu in Excel. However, Excel has a name box that displays the name or cell reference of the active cell.
It will fill the cell with # symbols.

A1 is the address of the first cell.
The cell address (or name) window is above the worksheet (usually below the menu bar). When you click on a cell, you will see either the cell address (e.g. A3) or cell name (e.g. Total; if you assigned a cell name).
