Jon and Kate Gosselin no longer follow a "nest" philosophy for sharing custody.
Nest philosophy is that the children stay in one place, and the parents rotate out when it is their turn for custody.
The Gosselins initially followed that practice after the divorce, but as time went along the custody arrangements have changed and evolved. As of January 2011, Jon Gosselin is not permitted on the house or property, and must pick up and drop off his children at the front gate. When he has custody, the children stay with him at his rather modest apartment.
Kate Gosselin is usually traveling when it is not her custody, working and traveling or enjoying time in New York City to get her extensions updated or see Broadway shows. During those times she stays at luxury hotels.
