There are two different kinds of flute lyres. The first kind clips onto the flute itself. Just make sure that this kind has rubber covers so that it does not scratch the flute. Just clip the lyre so that the music is positioned within eyesight, usually at the end of the head joint or the very top of the body. The second and more common type of lyre is sometimes referred to as the "flutist's friend." This lyre attaches to the arm of the flute player. The curved plastic part should sit on the forearm and then the strap should be pulled under the arm and looped around the top of the plastic part.
