In the Christian religion, God appointed Adam, the man he created, to name all of the animals, since there weren't as many animals of today because the animals were not needing to adapt to conditions since they were all in the same part of the world. Not to mention animals didn't breed with a different animal, for instance the lion and the tiger making the liger. Anyways, most of the animals we know of today got their name from a Latin origin, representing its name. Just like how we call the grasshopper its name because of how it hops through the grass. These are some ways an organism may have gotten its name.
