It does't. However, it does say that John's father Zebedee was a fisherman, and that John and his brother James were in his boat helping him.

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."At once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

[Matthew 4: 18-22]

Incidentally, with a life expectancy of little more than 40-45 in those days, this would mean that Zebedee was still a relatively young man (by today's standards) at that time - especially if he was still working as a fisherman. This would mean that James and John were little more than teenagers at the time they were called by Jesus.

Another perspective:

With all due respect, the New Testament accounts clearly say that John and his brother James were fishermen.

Matthew 4:21a - Going on from there, He sawtwo other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets.

It's clear that James and John were the fishermen ("theirnets"). Their father Zebedee was in a boat with them and might have been assisting, but they were doing the heavy work.

Mark's account (Mark 1:19, 20) implies that Zebedee was beyond the age to do such difficult work himself, as there were other "hired servants" present when James and John left their father to follow Jesus.

When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

If doubts linger over whether John and James were the fishermen, Luke's account removes them:

Luke 5:9, 10 - For he [Simon Peter] and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men."

Was Apostle Paul baptized?

We don't know. The Bible makes no reference to it. It is possible that John submitted to baptism by one of the twelve Apostles, with whom he had contact from time to time.Even though the Bible makes no reference to it, some still say that John was baptized in his mother's womb before his actual birth (though that was Holy Spirit baptism, rather than water baptism).

Where did John the apostle travel?

A:The Bible tells us nothing about the travels of the apostle John after the death of Jesus. A rather late tradition is that he was exiled on the island of Patmos, but this reflects the second-century view that he must have written the Book of Revelation, which is signed by a person called John. Modern New Testament scholars say that the author of Revelation was not the same person as the disciple, so there is no longer any reason to believe that John ever went to Patmos. Apart from legend and tradition, we do not know where St John travelled.

John wrote what books in the Bible?

A:The Gospel of John and the three Epistles of John are traditionally attributed to the apostle John, with the Revelation of John also commonly attributed to him. Like all the New Testament gospels, John's Gospel was originally anonymous and was only attributed to the apostle John later in the second century. The Church Fathers noticed that the author never mention John and the 'disciple whom Jesus loved' together, so they decided that this disciple must be John. They then decided that the author was the disciple whom Jesus loved and that he did not say so out of modesty. Thus began the tradition that John actually wrote the Gospel. However, scholars say that the Gospel could not have been written by an eyewitness to the events portrayed. In fact, John's Gospel is loosely based on Luke and, to a lesser extent, Mark. The Johannine epistles bear a family resemblance to this Gospel, so the next decision was to attribute them to the same author. Finally, Revelation is signed by a person called John and, although there was considerable dispute about its authenticity, this was also attributed to the disciple John.Modern scholars say that John the apostle wrote none of the books in the Bible.

Why does all the bible text say the Book of John and John the Baptist?
