Nowhere. It only talks (vaguely) about certain behaviors, not inherent natures.

In Leviticus 18:22 it says, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

In Leviticus 20:13, it also says, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable.."

Romans 1:27 says, "In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves due penalty for their perversion."

If I may put my own two cents in, it's worth noting that the attraction does not appear to be the sin here, it is the lust (which is a sin whether you are straight or homosexual) and the actions that follow. Sexual immorality in The Bible is defined as any kind of sexual activity outside of heterosexual marriage. Why people choose to single out homosexuals as guilty is beyond me.

It's worth noting that Romans 1:27 only talks about men who have abandoned natural rations with women. It doesn't talk about men who never had any heterosexual feelings to abandon. Therefore, it doesn't apply to gay men...only to straight men who are going against their nature.

====

According to The Bible, the attraction is a sin.

Matthew 5:28 (NKJV)

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Romans 1:27 (NKJV)Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. (SIN)

What Romans 1:27 is saying here is that it is natural for a man to be with a woman if they are married. But if any man lusts for a man, it is not natural. (SIN)

Matthew 5:28 (NKJV) looking at a woman to lust for her is commiting adultery. So if someone looks at a man like looking at a woman with lust then that too is commiting adultery. No matter how you look at it, commiting adultery in God's eyes is a sin.

And yes my wife was and is my first and I NEVER have been with anyone since. I have no desire to be with anyone either.

Answer:

The Bible doesn't use the word "homosexual." It only makes reference to the "sexual act." [which, as explained above, begins "spiritually" with the "lustful thought" - see also Matt.5:28]. Even in this, it doesn't use the word "sin." The Bible characterizes it as going beyond the "sin" of "adultery." It says:

"...both of them have committed an ABOMINATION: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Lev.20:13).

(NIV): "...both of them have done what is DETESTABLE. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

"Abomination": "Something disgusting." (Strong's Definitions)

====

The Bible does not use the word homosexual. Of course it does not. The word was not used in ancient Greek language in Biblical days. Remember that the Bible was not written in modern English. It has only been translated into English. The word Trinity was never used in the Bible but the Godhead is still Father, Son and Holy Spirit also known as the trinity. Just because they did not use an English word that does not mean it wasn't what they meant. Very good points about going beyond sin. Don't forget about Ephesians 5:3-7 (NKJV)

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

Homosexuality is referenced in the Bible as a sin. To look at this you need to define a few things first.

  1. Homosexuality: Two people of the same sex conducting sexual acts meant for a man and a woman.
  2. Sin: An act which goes against the nature and will of our God.
  3. Reference: This is not a "Direct Quote" because there are no direct quotes saying "homosexuality is a sin," in those exact words. Instead we must take a mature look at the Bible to get a good picture of how these things are viewed by God.

Biblical References:

Genesis 19:4-5 (NIV)

"Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom - both young and old - surrounded the house. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out so that we may have sex with them."

-Now this narrative goes on to tell of Lot [to whom these men are calling] offering his virgin daughters in replace of the visitors [Angels of the Lord sent to see if there was any righteousness in Sodom worth saving]. The Sodomites refuse and attempt to break into the house. Now in context there are many sins happening simultaneously. Yes, they are asking first to have sex with the visitors. Lot's utter refusal indicates the wrongness of this request. Once the initial request is refused they attempt to break down the door which is more of a rape situation in which the sin would be prevalent regardless of male or female gender. Historically the knowledge of Sodom being a homosexual haven is even idealized by the word sodomy, whose etymology is linked to this city.

Leviticus 18:22 (NIV)

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

-In this verse we can link the act of sex in a homosexual relationship. Lev. 18 is almost 100% about the act of having sex (with the exception of vs. 21 which speaks about sacrificing your children to an idolatrous god). To understand the viewpoint on these sins read the rest of the chapter. Homosexual sex is listed along the likes of incest, having sex with your neighbor's wife, sex during a woman's menstrual cycle, and sacrificing your children to false gods.

Leviticus 20:13 (NIV)

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood is on their own heads."

-This verse is actually in the punishments section of Leviticus. Punishments can vary, often reserving death for the worst offenses. However, these offenses are not reflective of our culture. For instance, to curse your father or mother results in death (vs. 9). It is important to see that God is giving these rules to His people when they are in the wilderness (between Egypt and the Canaan). He is giving them a picture of holiness, separate from what they knew in Egypt and what the people were doing in Canaan.

Romans 1:27 (NIV)

"In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

-Here Paul is talking about the nature of mankind in turning against God. He speaks in the earlier part of the chapter about man's nature to distance ourselves from God and how it turns. Then in turn God lets us do it. He allows us to let our hearts and minds turn from him to these acts. This verse is one of those verses describing the degrading effect we see in our societies when we've turned from God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV)

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God."

-Here we see the same list of sin but in a new context. This "Kingdom of God Inheritance" is a new ideal which is brought to light in the New Testament. While the Kingdom of God can vary based on differing beliefs, it remains resolute that homosexuality is still compiled amongst the list of things which are in disagreement with the nature of God. Once again this is where we can see that God does not approve of this activity, we do not know 100% for sure what the ramifications are of this activity, but we do see clearly that it is an unacceptable practice.

These 5 passages provide insight into homosexuality's place in the Bible. Now, it is very important to see that God still loves the people who struggle with homosexuality. It is no different than his love for those who struggle with lying, violence, Alcoholism, promiscuity, disrespectfulness, or any of the other various sins with which God abhors. God hates the sin but loves the sinner and asks us to turn from them and come home to Him. Please post on the discussion board any questions or thoughts you have on this answer. I'd love to read them all!

An additional thought:

One big reason the Bible is so disliked, is because it says that "man is WRONG" in his thoughts and actions... meaning "contrary to the ways of his Creator" or "disobedient to God's Commandments," which is what "sin" is [I John 3:4].

"...the LORD observed the extent of the people's wickedness, and He saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil." (Gen.6:5 NLT New Living Translation)

"For the sinful nature [man's flesh and blood physical existence, that's governed by and is reactionary to his five physical senses] is ALWAYS HOSTILE TO GOD. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will." (Rom.8:7 NLT)

Hence... man's need for his Saviour [and Creator, Jesus Christ - John 1:3], to save him from his "sinful nature" and eventually undergo the coming "change" or "transformation" [see I Cor.15:51] to the Perfect, Divine Nature of God.

So, generally speaking... YES... the Bible says [as elaborated on above] that IT IS WRONG TO BE GAY... along with most everything else man does in opposition to his Creator's Word.

The Bible is God's "Owner's Manual" revealed by the Maufacturer for the "Care and Maintenance" of His product - MANKIND - created in His image, to one day become His Divine, Immortal Family! It deals with proper hygiene and healthy diet... as well as the invisible realm of life... the "spiritual" aspects of the creature needed for the proper growth and development of both the body and character.

In other words... "the Bible says" that most everything God has made [if not exactly everything] has been "perverted and twisted" by mankind [including the obfuscation of the two sexes] -- thanks to the "god of this world," Satan the Devil... who first awakened the existence of evil within the hearts and minds of God's creation in the Garden of Eden, where man first disobeyed his Creator and "chose another god" to worship and obey.

The PURPOSE of the Bible is to tell man that HE IS WRONG! So that he might turn to his Creator, repentantly, and seek His Mercy and Forgiveness... and to seek to obey the Commands of His Maker:

"You are My friends IF YOU OBEY ME." (John 15:14 NLT)

It is the Bible that tells man what God expects of His creation -- first and foremost... to BE OBEDIENT CHILDREN!

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us WHAT IS TRUE and to make us realize WHAT IS WRONG IN OUR LIVES. It STRAIGHTENS US OUT[if we act upon its teachings and come into obedience to it through Christ's Power] and teaches us to DO WHAT IS RIGHT[if we only will]. It is God's way of PREPARING USin every way, fully equipped for every good thing [actions, deeds] God wants us to do." (II Tim.3:16-17 NLT)

"The Bible says" that man's SPIRIT [his THINKING] is WRONG; EVIL all the time. Jesus magnified this through His teaching of the Commandments. That although MURDER is a "sin" and WRONG -- it is the ANGRY THOUGHT [spirit]... harboring it in our heart, fanning and feeding the thought, letting it fester and grow that precedes the physical act.

Christ's "illuminating spiritual principle" carries through all the Commandments ["For we know that the Law is Spiritual..." - Rom.7:14]. Unfaithful acts of sex, which betrays and destroys families everywhere, is also "sin" [it's WRONG] and worthy of death. Sex-sin, too, begins with the "lustful thought" [spirit].

So, the PERVERSION of sex [like same-sex abominations] entertains in the hearts and minds of men [and women] the lustful, wicked twisting of what God has made [spiritually wicked depths in which the god of this world delights]. It goes far beyond the original intent of the Commandment in its depravity... but it's still "SIN" nonetheless [and it's WRONG].

"Being gay" [as the modern jargon goes] is not merely wrong in the manifestation of the "disgusting" [abominable] act -- but also in the "spiritual conception and infancy" of the lustful thought in the heart and mind of a person. Even in this modern, computerized, enlightened world and society -- it's an echo from the past:"...God... [still sees]... that the wickedness of man... [is still]... great in the earth, and that every imagination of the THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART... [is still]... only evil continually." (Gen.6:5 KJV)

Yes... the Bible STILL SAYS it's WRONG!

Leviticus 18:22 - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Answer 2

The Bible does not condemn BEING gay. You have to understand, it is not wrong to be gay. What is wrong is taking part in gay relations which the Bible condemns several times (Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

God loves everyone.

However, 1 Corinthians 6:9 says "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?...nor homosexual offenders." and Leviticus 18:22 says "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Answer 3

You have to look at the verses in context to see what they actually say.

First, as stated above, the Levitical Law (18:22) condemned 'lying with a man as with a woman' as it was imperative that the Jewish nation should increase in number, and any form of sex that went against God's rule for Noah (..."go forth and multiply"...) was frowned upon.

However, these Laws were written for a particular people at a particular moment of time, and not God's Law for all time. If this were so, then Christians would not eat pork nor shellfish, all Christian men would be circumcised, not wear two sorts of cloth and stone adulterers!

So clearly we can dismiss the Leviticus reference out of hand.

As for the reference in 1 Corinthians, again we have to look at the context. Corinth in those days was a hotbed of sex, debauchery, paganism and crime, where anything went, sexually, spiritually and morally. And in the midst of all that was a small Christian church that was having difficulties that Paul was addressing.

Among these problems was the fact that some of the Church professed to be Christian but still engaged in pagan rituals. It was this Paul was speaking out against rather than a loving committed homosexual relationship.

In this verse the English translates as 'homosexual offenders', but the original Greek Paul used, the word was <arsenokoi> or 'homosexual pagan temple prostitutes'. Some of the Christians saw nothing wrong in visiting these and yet remaining Christian. It was against the arsenokoi that Paul was protesting and he was more concerned with paganism than homosexuality.

So again we can dismiss this verse.

There are similar incidences (eg in Romans) where some claim that Paul was speaking out against homosexuals as we would know them today, but again looking at the context and the original Greek nothing is further from the truth. Christ himself had nothing to say on the matter. And those who cherry-pick scripture to somehow 'prove' that the Bible says homosexuals are evil are either plain wrong, or are using their version of scripture to somehow lend credence to their own prejudices.

Leviticus says absolutely nothing about it being wrong to "be homosexual", since the concept of sexual orientation was completely unknown in Biblical times. Leviticus 18:22 has been used to persecute gay people, but it actually offers multiple interpretations. Even the most traditional interpretation only talks about sex, not sexual orientation.

More compelling is Leviticus 2:18, which says:

וַיֹּאמֶר ה׳ אֱלֹוקים, לֹא-טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ; אֶעֱשֶׂה-לּוֹ עֵזֶר, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃

And the ETERNAL G-d said: 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper for him.

The Hebrew word for Helper in this verse is ezer (עזר) which is masculine. Now it is true that masculine Hebrew nouns can also be used generically to include the feminine, but if this "helper" was only supposed to be a woman, we would expect the word ozeret (עוזרת). We can conclude that this verse could apply to male helpers or female helpers.

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines "homosexuality" as "erotic activity with another of the same sex." Male with male; Female with female for erotic pleasure and not non-sexual, close and loving same sex relationships which are also in the Bible with God's approval.

Primarily, there are six biblical passages that describe this type of relationship which are sinful in God's eyes:

Genesis 19:4-11

Leviticus 18:22

Leviticus 20:13

Romans 1:21-27

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

1 Timothy 1:9-11

God created them male and female (Genesis 1:26) which is a parallel of our future creation spiritually in the God family (see Ephesians 5:31-32).

Although the Bible do not discuss the psychological causes of homosexuality, the Scripture does discuss the natural need for same-gender bonding, through its scriptural accounts depicting non-sexual, yet loving and close same-gender relationships including these accounts which are not sinful in God's eyes:

Genesis 36 to 47:30

1 Samule 18 to 1 Samuel 20

Ruth 1-4

Luke 15

John 13:25

John 21:20

The Scripture makes it plain that the gay agenda/lifestyle is against God's Law. Here are a couple of verses from the New Testament:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10New International Version (NIV)9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-27New International Version (NIV)26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

The Bible does not directly condemn homosexuality, but it does contain two passages that depict homosexuals, or at least bisexuals, as wholly evil, making the intentions of the authors clear.

In Genesis chapter 19, the citizens of Sodom sought to rape the two men visiting Sodom, thus proving Sodom to be absolutely evil. Note that it is the proposed rape that is strongly condemned, not the fact that the entire city was portrayed as homosexual.

In Judges chapter 19, the Israelite people of Gibeah wanted to homosexually rape the old man's male visitor. Just as in the story of Sodom, the old man offered the men of the city his virgin daughter and the concubine, if they left the visitor alone. However, in this case, there was no divine intervention to prevent evil and the men of the city took the women and raped them. This story has so many parallels to the story of Sodom that it is unlikely to be true.

The New Testament condemns any form of fornication, and admonishes against what were considered unnatural practices.
