Mushrooms get there energy primarily from the decomposition of dead plants and animal matter. A common misconception is that mushrooms go under photosynthesis. Mushrroms, like other fungi, lack chloroplast (the key organelle in phtosynthesis) and cannot produce glucose ( main form of energy) from photosynthesis.

through thier food. they obtain this food by:

  1. growing their hyphae ( branching, threadlike tubes that make up the bodies of multicellular fungi some are continuous strands of cytoplasm for some mushrooms. it is stringy and looks like string cheese) into the food sounce
  2. digestive chemicals ooze out of the hyphae and break the food down into small particles
  3. the hyphae sucks up the food and up the stalk it goes

its kinda like when you were little and you would stick you fingers into the cake. imagine if your fingers would release a digestive chemical and disolve the cake. then your fingers would suck up the disolved cake! thats how a fungus eats.

they obtain energy the same way we do, through our food! (to make it long story short)

hope that helped!
