Purgatory is not found in The Bible. The only opportunity we are given to become holy is here on earth, in this life.
Jn:17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Jn:17:19: And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Eph:5:26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
1Thes:5:23: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Heb:13:12: Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
1Pt:3:15: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
OpinionYes, when a soul enters purgatory it begins the cleansing process, (removal of sins) so the soul can be purely good and so worthy to be entirely in God's presence (heaven). In other words a soul in heaven is guarenteed a place in heaven.OpinionSome churches believe that Purgatory is a temporary state before you can go to heaven. While some other churches believe that it is a place for those not good enough for heaven, but too good for hell; and once in purgatory you remain there indefinitely.Other churches do not believe there is a purgatory at all; they believe that after death people go directly to heaven or hell depending on how God judges them.
"Pergetry" is not a commonly recognized term. It could be a misspelling or a specialized term not widely known. If you can provide more context or details, I may be able to offer further clarification.
According to Catholic doctrine, once a soul goes to hell, it is believed to be a permanent separation from God. Purgatory is seen as a place where souls are purified before entering heaven, so the concept of going from hell to purgatory is not a part of traditional Catholic teaching.
OpinionThere is no such place as "purgatory" mentioned in the Bible. And there is no scripture in the Bible that says: "go to heaven."See related question link provided below.
" purgatory " was a place where souls went to make up for their sins before they went to heaven
First of all, not everyone goes to purgatory before going to heaven. Some people die and go straight to heaven. Others are not completely free from sinful attachments. Because of their attachment to sin, they are not yet ready for heaven because as the Bible tells us, "nothing unclean can enter heaven." So they go to purgatory where they are purified. Second of all, the prayers of people on earth are not necessary for someone to go from purgatory to heaven. It is God who purifies the souls, and He doesn't need anyone's help. However, He allows us to participate with Him by praying for those in purgatory because as the Bible tells us, it is good to pray for one another. We pray for those in purgatory not because it is necessary for them to go to heaven, but because it is a charitable thing that God allows us to do for each other.
that the Pope is infallible. that Mary died as a virgin, that you have to spend time in purgatory before going to heaven
The only major difference is that Protestants believe if go to heaven you go straight to heaven. Catholics believe for most people you have to go to purgatory before you go to heaven.
For Catholics they call it the 'purgatory' which is essentially the border line/ waiting room before entering Heaven and/or Hell. Therefore if you've committed bad deeds you could repent for them and live on doing good so that you could enter heaven.
No, the soul experiences the particular judgment immediately upon death. At that time it either goes to heaven or hell, or if it is not yet perfect, purgatory in anticipation of heaven.
yes! indeed Catholic Church believe in Purgatory. In 1 Peter 3:18-20: " ...He (Jesus Christ) went and preached to those spirits that were in prison..."; a place or State of what we call purgatory where in Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ preached those suffering spirit that fall short because of sins are cleansed, before entering into Heaven. Remember we worship God in Spirit and the membership of the Church is in Spirit. Because of the faith of relatives and friends and of the church; praying together with the Saints and angels in heaven to the Father in Heaven through the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, help the souls in Purgatory to go to heaven. Like what Martha and Mary did, Lazarus had awaken and live.
