Earth's atmosphere holds some naturally occurring carbon dioxide. However, the C02 that is causing global warming is caused by industries releasing their pollution into the air and by the millions of cars that travel on the Earth's roadways every day.

================================================================

ALL the Carbon presently at earths surface (in the rocks and in plants and animals and atmosphere) was originally in Earth's primitive atmosphere (which had no free Oxygen present in it).

The evolution of life on Earth began the process of removing CO2 from the atmosphere and trapping it in rocks (Limestone and fossil fuel deposits - eg Coal) and placing free Oxygen in the atmosphere. Earth has been "terraformed" by its biosphere.

Man's activities in burning fossil fuels is partially reversing the Carbon sequestration process and by doing it disrupting some fairly finely balanced natural systems.
